I have been playing trumpet now since 4th grade, and now I am in 9th. I have been told that I am one of the best players around here for my age. I have been in different marching bands, honors bands, and private bands. I guess that what I would like to accomplish more, is my range. I can play from the low F sharp, and I can squeek out a high e flat. Does anybody know any tips of how to play higher, and how to play my peddletones any better?

do not push on the mouthpiece, use more air, and blow it out of the horn like a mach 5 jet. super fast air is key, and lots of it, but do not push any harder.

Hi! I have been playing the trumpet for about 4 years. I am 14. My teacher told the best way to play higher is lots of pratice in the lower register (bottom g`s etc) and it will come naturally and it will gradually extend your range! Hope it helps!

First what you want to do is start your warm ups alittle higher than normal, Try to play High C almost right away. This will set your embrousure for the day higher than normal. This will allow you to play in the higer registor. The thing I do to increase my range is Play my chromatic scales in the high range over and over. Then I play in my low range, than high, then low. If you start to stran on the high notes, stop and rest. Remember you don`t want to force notes out, that`s just wasting valuble practicing time. Also try playing with no pressure on your mouthpiece, It`s hard at first, but after 2 weeks your lips will be stronger. and last, use a alot of air@

I have been playing a couple years longer than you and what i have learned about the high range is that it is all about lip position on the mouthpiece. its not more mothpiece shallwness but position ok?

don`t forget about lip slurs and long tones. Long tones help out range, power, and endurance most of all. Don`t just limit yourself between low c and middle c. Do them above that until those high c`s become effortless and the rest on top will come.

First of all, much of what has been written so far is ok but some of you are going to seriously screw yourselves up. Starting on a high C...c`mon. Secondly, mouthpiece shifting is ridiculous. Are you going to move your lips around everytime you play? I was like you, couldn`t play much above a high D and tried everything. Not until I learned to relax and breathe naturally while playing did things start working. There is a guy named Jim Manley in St. Louis, Missouri, USA who showed me what I was doing wrong. This guy sucked in high school and college but if you heard him today...it would blow your mind. Do a google search for him and you will understand. Finally, you can`t learn to do this over email. Until you can find someone who is playing from double f to double c every single day, and has done so for the last 5-10 years, and has gone through what you are going through, only this person can possibly explain it to you for your exact situation. This is what happened to me when I found Jim. I was 25 when I played my first high g and it took a few months after that to really feel comfortable with it. I can play easily up to double c now. I can do it every day and have for the last 10 years. Good luck.
