Is it me or are more if not all professional trumpet players male?
There are just as many girls as guys who play the trumpet.

because gurls who play the trumpet just do it for fun, and plus theres not as many gurls as guys. bois do it for fun and keep doing it for a career.

I`m a trumpet major. I`m currently completing my B.A. in music, and yes, I am a female.

I have wondered the same thing and i have come across some professional female trumpet players. Some of which are in an all female big band and or jazz combos. Alot i have found sit in an orchestra or military band. However, i think most become music teachers or whatever they want. But i think female musicians are cool. I have met some really cool female trumpeters and they could kick my butt in the style, tone and intonation area...I listen to them especially to improve my own sound. It seems like i have to compete with the other male trumpeters if i try to learn something... LOL whatever.

People in general look at the flute, for instance, as femenine but the most famous flutists in the WORLD are male. I wonder who are the famous female flutists? Anybody know?

because the jazz mafia have female professional trumpet players killed off! duhhh...

hey, i myself have been looking at the professional music world and have noticed (or it seems) that there are more male musicians. i hope to one day be a professional musican, but with the arts people tend to like to keep it old fashioned. i have done a little research (it`s still in the process) and have found a female trumpet player from the 1900s. she goes by the name Valaida Snow and from what i have read, she wasn`t a bad musician. she has become my inspiration so i hope for any other female trumpet players, just remember Valaida and what she accomplished in the world of men. we can do it to. good luck to all of you

At the moment the whole thing is male-dominated, yeah, but that`s not to say it won`t change. I went to a music styles seminar today and there was a majority of girls. However, when my stage band went to this big jazz comp... (we`re a girls school) we were the only all-girl band there.

I am part of a band in Ontario, Canada where there are 200 people in total and 27 trumpets. Out of the 27, two are female. We are just as good, or better then the guys and I am sure more and more women will succeed in this area because even though you do not hear about female players there are plenty waiting for their moment, like myself.

There`s over 16 trumpets in our band and only 2 of them are girls. Both of them are really good though. I don`t know why there`s few girls, but the few girls I`ve seen are really good.

Yet, why are most instrument teachers female?

Apart from a few `general music` teachers at our local school, I don`t know a single male teacher!

In our stage band 3 out of 5 trumpets are females. And we sound good We had one year where all of us were female. I think more and more kids are choosing instruments that are not considered common for their genders. And thank goodness

There are about 25 trumpet players in our school spread out between two bands. There is definitely more guys than girls, but.... The fist three trumpet chairs in the "Good Band" are girls!!!!

Great commentaries by all so far. Recalling in high school a very technically good female cornet player (very pretty too)...she sat 1st chair cornet. I was 1st trumpet. What drove her nuts was that I usually took everything up an octave (even the concert stuff). She would never join me into the stratosphere...honestly, I don`t think she had the chops for it...but I had other far more interesting plans for those chops.
