I didn`t see any "tumpet" reed! I did see a digital tumpet that looked like a pistol and two people hugging.

Seriously,
Trumpet reeds refer to organ pipes, and are called trumpets...not the brass ones.

The digital trumpet was for a joke..but not as much as this thread.

Thats a pretty good example, though not the most common way to us a trumpet reed. That gives a real double reedish sound, and is very quite. THe other way is to insert it in a conventional mouthpiece, which makes the tone more brassy but windish. The really good trumpet players would buzz and blow at the same time; it`s simply amazing what they come out with!

Wow. And I thought that the trumpet players at my school were crazy. Forgive the ignorance of a french horn player, but although I`ve seen the trumpets with multiple bells, the only time I`ve seen a reed on a trumpet was when a friend of mine who plays the sax commandeered my trumpet and used his mouthpiece to play it.

i think maybe your comparing a reed on a woodwind instroment to something on a trumpet. a reed whould be like the mouthpeice.
