Ok, this seems ridiculous. I posted a topic about Bach 7C vs Schilke 14a4a. And someone replyed... always play on the biggest PMC you can! Why would you want to do this???? Shouldnt it be the smallest? or the one that suits you the best? Or is there logic to that rule?

Most of the time people play the biggest mpc they can because you get a better overall tone quality but depending on the music and the part you play smaller mouthpieces are not a bad choice

Playing the biggest mouthpiece allows you the best sound. I realize that if you are playing lead, then you need to play a smaller mouthpiece to help with endurance, but play the biggest one you can. It might be that you need the smallest mouthpiece made to play what you want to (if you are screaming for a long time or something), and in that case, it is the biggest you can play. Playing a big mouthpiece gives a better tone, so why would you not want the best tone you can get? Of course, playing a mouthpiece that is too big will negate any positive effects, so don`t play a mouthpiece that is bigger than you can reasonably play.

You should be able to play everything on the same mouthpiece, a "cheater" is not to give you extra range it is just to aid you in the upper range, i can double a`s and b`s on my Monette Prana b1-5m as well as i can on my Prana B6L but the B6L just makes the job a little easier.

What would be considered a cheater MPC? Im thinking the ones that guaruntee double c`s or something like that.
Remember that the size of the MPC affect your embouchure. For some reason after my first year of lessons and enlarging the diameter of my MPC i.e. 1C, i have freakishly large muscles in my face. LOL, its so funny flex them and watch other peoples reactions.

Oh it helped alot too. I used to play with one cheek popped out. Once i was able to build those muscles and had a decent sound on the 1C i started to move back up. I loved the 1 1/2 C for a long time then moved up to 3c. Im really loving my progress in my second semester of college.

Quote What would be considered a cheater MPC? Im thinking the ones that guaruntee double c`s or something like that. Quote
NO MOUTHPIECE GUARANTESS DOUBLE C`S, IN FACT MOST TINY MOUTHPIECES WILL KILL YOUR ENDURANCE AND MAYBE ADD 1 OR 2 STEPS TO YOUR RANGE FOR ABOUT 5 MINUTES. In this age of instant gratification young people want to be playing double c`s in the 9th grade, you WONT do it, its ok, beuild your musculature and learn to have an upper range that compliments the sound of your lower range, not an upper range with a thin weak sound caused by all the kids out there who play bach 20C`s or Schilke A4A series.

When you say you`re moving up to a 3C from a 1C, you actually mean that you are moving down, since you are going to a smaller mouthpiece. In the Bach system, smaller numbers are bigger mouthpieces.

OK OK, whats this about the guy sass mouthing the Schilke a4a series. I play a 14a4a and i find that it enhances my endurance compared to a larger mouth peice. SO why are you knocking it?

BTW, i have done tons of research on mouthpieces, I mean tons!!!!!! I have seen and read so many things ranging from lexan plastic mouthpieces to the gerwyn adjustable cup. But nothing beats the Giorgianni 2000. They claim to provide a mouthpiece that guarantees double c`s.
