Do any of you guys have any tips to playing the fourth variation of the canival of venice(the Arban version)? It is very hard to jump octaves triple tounging.

Nate, this is probally one of the most technical sections of trumpet music written i reccomend MASTERING The carl fischer arban book lines 115 to 145, and i mean flawless, the key here is tongue coordination and constant air flow while tonguing, also master lines 12 to 46, Carnival is meant to show that you have mastered all the skills in the trumpet bible, remember to keep the tongue low, and i reccomend the Ta-Ka-Ta triple tonguing pattern for this extremely technical pice of literature.

P.S. How about also possibly taking a metronome slowing it down to o say 80 BPM`s and really getting the notes under your fingers and slowly speeding it up.

Ok, Carnival of venice... flat out a hard song.
I had the pleasure of attempting this song last year.
Now I have been playing since I was 5, about 15 years, and I have to admit this song was hard. I practiced this song 2 hours a day, for a month straight just trying to polish and perfect my triple tougning technique, because making those octave jumps up and down while triple tougning is very difficult. The Principal trumpeter at my college helped me out alot, he told me to concentrate on the root notes, keep my tounge low, and focus on the rythm of triple tougning.
I played this song in a solo contest (with piano of course) and recieved a 1+ rating. On my score sheet the judges told me that I was one of the best players they have heard play that song out of all the people in my age group on the west coast. SO, I guess I am saying that the tips listed above really helped... Now that I think about it, I kinda fudged up a tiny bit on the runs right before the end... But it is a damn hard song, its like, a test for all trumpeters who say they are good, a test to give you the right to brag. Good luck
Ps. I still play this song because it is a great warmup and practice piece, I am still not satisfied with it, I will keep at it

By the way, a 1+ rating is as high as you can get.... for those of you thinking it sucked, lol, ratings go from greatest to least 1+, 1, 1- ... ect.

The Carnival can be an etude in itself, but should not be played by people that think there is some `trick` to playing it. If you must know what the real trick is, it`s: Become a trumpet virtuoso. Est. Arrival: 10-15 years of smart study.

and by the way i placed first in the midwwest with carinval of venice--since then ive stopped playing trumpet professionally, and ive realized that even thought the horror of triple tounging is evident in the piece it not difficult compared to the horrors that are posed by certain jazz works
ps cameron you still suck just for saying that carnival of venice was hard--you make me wish like i had never stumbled across this page you make me god damn sick you piece of worthlessness
