I have met some of the most memorable and influential people in the music world, and they are the reason I am where I am today. Our conductor is probably the kindest and most sensible person I have ever met. She recognizes my ability and focus, and has encouraged me to do some amazing things. I have gone to state for solo and ensemble on bassoon without even playing a full year (and joined city band, which is mostly college students, I believe). The same happens with my piano teacher. He always lets me choose the things to work on, and I'm guessing if he didn't, I wouldn't be as good as I am today. He made my way of thinking turn around from "Well, am I able to play this?" to, "Do I want to play this?". Not only is he inspirational, but also quite funny. And I always hear stories of children (even adults) who hate going to piano lessons, but I always looked forward to them, not only for instruction, inspiration, and guidance, but also for a good laugh or two (or three or four!). I think musical people are just "into" not only what they do for a living, but also in everyday life.
