Hi all

I'm seeking help from someone who owns a ChordMaster CTM (ChordMaster, Tuner, Metronome). Image HERE

It shows a small number on the frets supposedly to indicate the fret a chord is barred at. This generally is easy to follow (A "G" chord which is formed by barring at the third fret and using an "E" shape shows "3" as the fret). It's also correct by forming an "F" on the first fret - it shows a "1".

But let's say you want to play an "Em" - commonly formed from an open chord, pressing the fourth & fifth strings down on the second fret. Being an open chord, I would have thought it's being "barred" by the nut - in effect, fret number "0". Yet, it still shows "1" as the fret.

Am I reading/understanding it incorrectly? I can't find anything on the net that addresses this.

Thanks for any help,
Mark.

Well, this is where I go red in the face! After spending ages trying to work it out, I posted a request for help, took one more look at the unit and the answer was obvious!

The number doesn't represent so much what fret the chord is barred at, but rather the fret the number is sitting on. Therefore, whether playing an "F" chord barred at fret 1 or an Em open, the portion of the fret board displayed on the screen is the same (about five frets). That being the case, the position of fret "1" remains the same. This has probably made less sense than my initial request - but it's worked out.
