Ok, so I want to learn another instrument, but I'm not sure what to choose? I play the flute and I'm wondering if there's anything that would be and easy transition from flute to whatever it is. Any thoughts?

If you want to play another instrument, listen to them! Go on youtube. Look for professionals playing instruments. All instruments have their difficulties.

It would probably be easier to start a woodwind than a brass instrument, but you could also play a brass instrument if you would really like to! I agree with Canadian though, every instrument has its difficulties, so just pick one that you like the sound of!

hmm there are a few flute players in my band that have switched to tuba haha i dunno why. although i don't play flute, my band director said that if you start on flute, sax or clarinet is probably the next closest, so pretty much any other woodwind.

Play whatever you want to. I picked up the flute one day, just for fun, and it was dang hard (I play trombone, violin, and tuba). But, I kept at it, and after about 2 months, I was half way through essential elements book one. Don't let the difficulty of the task stop you; just pick something you like.

Listen to recordings, and, my personal favorite, spend some time at a local music store! Walk around and look at the instruments and the sheet music. If they'll let you, try and blow some notes or pluck some strings or hit the drums or something.

If you want to do a really easy instrument, although it's not woodwind or brass, piano is simply the easiest instrument. It helps with learning other instruments, the fingering is relatively easy, and the notes are in consecutive order on the keyboard (very helpful.) I've played both piano and flute, and piano is just an easy instrument to add to your repertoire. On the other hand, if you want another instrument in the woodwind/brass category, I'd say sax.

I know this doesn't really translate directly but there's something pretty darn sexy about the bass. Just saying...

I would recommend trying out and listening to all instruments that would catch your interest. But, an easy transition from flute would be to try the piccolo or the clarinet. They're both nice instruments!

I recommend piano, but not as transition from the flute...just because.

I love the clarinet...i used to play flute...but what drew me to these instruments was the sounds that would stand out to me when i listen to music
