Is anyone interested in a forum on music teaching? I teach instrumental music and am studying to be a class music teacher.

Is anybody keen to share lesson plans, activities or tips through 8 notes?

That might be a good idea.

I have gathered the notion that many people think the majority of participants on this forum are younger and more student oriented. However, there are others of us who this would be a great place to share opinions, techniques, plans, and such.

I'm good for it.

I think that is a great idea! There are quite a few talented and knowledgeable musicians here that have years of experience, but sometimes they can be hard to find!

That may be a good idea. I teach trombone, and find it useful to bounce ideas off other teachers.

O-kay well let me start off here. I teach piano. I have a thirteen year old daughter that I have taught through level 4. However, she seems to be at a stand still now. She still plays daily (her choice), and has the ability to continue. She wants to play mostly pop type modern music, which is fairly easy in comparison to other music, which she now neglects. Other piano instructors have told me they didn't have much luck on teaching their own children, and I might need to send her to another instructor. Has anyone ever been through this? What did you do?

Oh another bit of info...do not know if it is relevant. She started playing french horn 2 years ago through the school. A few months ago she began saying she has trouble reading piano music.

Well, when I started the trombone, I too neglected my piano. However, I had no trouble reading piano music thereafter, even after going for months without playing. However, it was easier for me because trombone is written in concert pitch. The french horn, on the other hand, is not. The piano notes she will be reading will be different than the horn notes. This is why she's having trouble.
