I was doing a show this last week and out of no where the director wanted us to play "Take me out to the Ballgame" in the key of G. We had about 15 seconds to figure it out in our heads and then play it. ((Funny things happen in professional shows)).
You never know when you're going to be asked to play some common song, either a last minute thought for a show (as above), or something happening in rehearsal just to be fun.
There are some songs we should all know and be able to do in most common keys - - some that come to mind are:
The Wedding March (Here comes the bride)
Happy Birthday
Feelings
Don't cry for me Argetina
Try playing these off the cuff every now and then, just to keep yourself sharp.
Anyone else have any common songs we should all be able to pop off out of nowhere?

I've been asked to play all kinds of "silly" music out of nowhere...western saloon type music most recently, for which I played "alabama" with alot of tremelo!
