We played it when I was in high school (I graduated `03) and we loved it. I was first chair in the first band, and I had at one time our contest recording of it.

Yeah Im a senior at Oakmont High School in Roseville Ca, and we played Elegy during our cocert season. It is a touching peice of music. I had to give the peice to another student because i was unable to play the timpani part because i would get emotional. . . it was sort of cool that music can do that. Our staff loved the song so much that we actually put it into our feild show this year.

American Elegy is probably 1 of the best songs i`ve ever played. We played it our last jh concert as the very last song. i was 4th chair in the top band. i didn`t really care what chair i was at the moment, because i just felt really honored and glad to be playing that song. the song is so touching and so beautiful. some people almost cried.

I love the song we play it every year. The only song that sends more chills up and down my spine is Les Prelueds. If you get a chance to hear that song it is kick ass.

I played it as a sophmore in high school. its so emotional, it was my best friend and i`s favorite song, by far. When he died a year later, a group of us played it at his funeral. It truly is the perfect song. Sad, uplifting, inspirational, strong and tragic all in one. i cant get over this song

I was searching for "Reviews of An American Elegy" for a school project and came across this. For a college class I had to choose a song that "Moved" me and I chose this song of course.

In highschool, the slow band songs always seemed to bore me, but when my director pulled this peice out, I fell in love. We played it at the Ohio State Band Convention in Columbus, and the entire band, audience, and directors were brought to tears by the end. I love this peice so much and have never become so emotional beause of a song. I will always love this piece and encourage everyone else to listen for the meaning in music just like we all have done from this.

Wow, I am surprised to see that so many of you feel the same way as me. An American Elegy is one of my all time favorite songs for concert band. Our top band at my high school played it a few years ago, and I was surprised to find tears in my eyes while listening to it, and I didn`t even know what it was about at the time. It is truely amazing music that has the power to move people. Glad to hear everyone else feels so touched by it too!

My daughter`s HS band performed this incredible piece last night - definitely a moving tribute to the students and families of Columbine. My father passed away four days after the shootings, so the memory of that time period was very vivid in my mind as I listened to this performance in the darkness. This composition is a masterpiece!

I played in last year in all-county band and at my spring concert. I got to play the oboe solo`s. This song is so amazing and beautifully written. I heard that every solo represents a member of the band that died. A trumpet player died, so there`s a trumpet solo and an oboe and alto saxophone died also. I know anyone who has ever played this song always says they got goosebumps, its even more incredible when you get to play the solo`s.
