so we have a guest conductor and i cant tell where his ictuse is and it is really starting to suck. i want to say somthing but he has like 2 phds in conducting symphony and cunducting bands he should be clear as day but........
any way i dint feel like it is my place to correct the dr or to even say that somthing is unclear will one of you do it for me. Ok ictuse for those nonconductor types is the down beat right at the bottom. this guy is waving the infinity sign you know the figure 8 on its side. i love the word ictuse. maby ill just talk to my section leader and let him deal with it.

Yeah we all deal with this sooner or later. You can do a few things. You can do it yourself, or you can talk to your section leader and have them talk to the conducter and figure out the problem.

Is it the whole orchestra? Is everyone complaining? If not, just depend on your ears. More than likely, you will be able to get by with everything just depending on your ears. If not, just listen to everyone while they play and try to line up where they as a whole put the beat compared to his ictus, and go from there. If you do something blatently wrong, the conductor will tell you.

If everyone has the same issue, have the concertmaster do it. That fool should have to do something besides sit there and look good for once.
