Hey guys, was wondering if you could offer me any tips here... when I play, my lips just dry up so quickly no matter how much i wet them before playing... it makes it hard for me especially as i`m still quite an inexperienced trombonist. Does anyone have any "home remedies" that they would like to share?

There are lot`s of lip medication for folks with dry lips. The one I trust and use constantly, as well as most of my fellow brass players around here, is called DCT. (Daily Conditioning Treatment). It`s made by Blistex. Not only is it great for your dry lips, but it also has sunscreen built in.

Yeah, I left out the Drum Corp Treatment. Or like my friends used to do, scratch out the top line of the "T", so it says "DCI". Yeah, we were dorks.

And yeah, I used to use Burt`s Bees Wax, but i found that I had to use it more often. Plus, and this is more personal, I have a hard time playing with the treatment stuff on, so I would have to put it on like 1/2 hour before I start playing, and then wipe it off just before I warm up. DCT lasts a little longer, especially after you wipe it off, so I like that better. But yeah, Burt`s Bees Wax is my #2 favorite.

Here`s a little remedy I came across on the net. Check it out!

A trumpeter named Dan Gosling created it, and has now made it into a successful business.

Hmm that stuff looks interesting, maybe I`ll take a trip up to A&G in Oakland to get some and try it. I like how it says "For Musicians With Lips". What about those without lips?

And yeah, that strawberry smell on the mouthpiece is great. Does a good job of hiding the jockstrap/moldy shoe smell when we don`t clean our horns as often as we should.

Vaseline. Use it overnight, and it works better than any lip treatment I`ve ever bought.

Thanks for the tips guys, i borrowed some of my sisters vaseline the other day to practice, and I noticed the difference almost instantly! I`ll be sure to check out some of the other products to see which is best for me.

Hi all!

Dan Gosling, the ChopSaver guy here! One of the reasons I created ChopSaver is I became frustrated with the drug store brands not working for me. After a bit of research, I found out why. ChopSaver is all natural and has no petroleum (vaseline). And you won`t find this combination of healing ingredients in any other product. The citrus smell is great too! But don`t just listen to me, check the the endorsements on the website (www.chopsaver.com). Money back if you don`t like it. What have you got to lose?

All the best,

Dan

Oh the humanity!! indeed!

Fortunately, I do not get dry lips that frequently, but I always, ALWAYS have a bottle of water with me....-_-

For people with dry lips, i would recommend Chap-Sticks, and the Blistex....

I get dry lips to sometimes but i use vasaline or chapstick. Although, right before i play i use too much and I have to whipe some off to get the perfect amount of moisture but i would say use chapstick or vasaline.
