What`s a good price for a new Conn 88H, and where could I get it? I`ve been considering one for $1800, but my teacher said that it is a little pricey. Does anyone know where I could find one cheaper?
Thanks

They are very costly, but very good instr. Retail for a new one I think is higher go to Conn`s webstie and find a dealer and compare prices

I recommend the Baltimore Brass Company, owned and run by David Fedderly, the tuba player in the Baltimore Symphony. No one will beat his price and he always has several 88h`s to try in the various configurations. Prices will be a few hundred lower than the 1800 you quoted if you get the basic model with the old style rotor or a little higher if you get the newer Christian Lindberg valve, and several hundred more if you get the sterling silver bell (though few people seem to want the sterling bell; many find it too dull sounding).

The serial number, i think, i dont have my horn by me right now, is where the slide and the bell attach, i think there is also one on the hand grip on the slide, other than that im not sure, But Conn-88H are in the top 3 of the best horns (in my option) and my horn i bought (Conn 88HY-CL) was $2000, $1800 is good for a Conn 88H, look on woodwinds and brasswinds, or music123, they are a really good internet provider of musical instruments and the supplies to go with horns. But continue looking around for a really good deal on one. Find one that you are suited with, try it before you buy it, always do that first, just in case it doesn`t play right or there is a leak, but look around for some low prices, ask your band director if you they have any deals with instrument providers (like my school district has a deal for directors from Don Wilson Music) and see if there are anything like that

Thanks gorgio. Your insight has been completely useless and did not even address the question. I think $1800 is actually not that bad, though you might be able to get a few hundred bucks off that. I suggest a lightly used horn, because that should definitely be cheaper and you can get a horn that is just as good.
