For an easy range extension exercise, play up and down the octaves in each position, starting in 6th and moving up to 1st. I like to start at the lower octave in 6th position, move up half octaves until I get to the double high, then go back down. I do that two or three times in 6th, then repeat the process in 5th moving up the slide. Above all, stay relaxed and never force the higher and pedal octave notes. Break up your range extension exercises with long tone relaxation exercises or you`ll wear your chops out.
