I`ve been working on sound and tone production a lot lately, so right now I have Charles` Vernon`s "Singing Approach to the Trombone", and Rochut "Melodius Etudes" books 1 and 3. And of course my orchestra excerpts folder. Then I move to style and technical work, where I have the Bach Cello Suite book, and Kopprasch "60 Studies", and then I move into solos. Not working on any specifically right now, but I read through a couple just for fun each day.
What do you look for in a solo? What solos do you like, what styles?

Yeah I have. When I was working on my senior recital, I started recording myself as a double checking method, and it really opened my eyes. It helped with intonation, style, dynamics, and a bunch of other stuff. It`s crazy how much more you learn about your own playing when you listen to yourself practicing after the fact.

I actually don`t... I keep hearing his name, but I`ve never listenned to him. Probably because I dont listen to a whle lot of jazz, and when I do, it`s Wycliffe Gordon, or some of the funk cats like Fred Wesley.
Most of my listenning these days is classical, since that is what`s paying the bills at the moment. But maybe I`ll go out and check him out.

so during this parade, one of the t-bones in my section dropped his horn during the roll off, and he didn`t bend down to get it. we manage to get it back at the end of the parade, an hour later, and it looked like a jacked up baritone, completely crushed and mutilated. apparently, no one bother to take it off the road after half my band trampled on it. it was left out for the rest of the bands to trample on too. anyway, my friend didn`t get fried cause he did the right thing in not bending down to pick it up. hilarious!!!! it saved us a point but cost a bone!!!

the funny thing is thats always been a fear of mine. in ANY sitution. Marching i always felt like iw as going to drop my horn, on the bandstand i always feel like ill loose my slide. even though ive been playing long enough to have teh control i still feel like ill do something like that.

i`ve dropped my slide 4 days in a row. the funny part about that is when it happened, the entire band was quiet and nothing/no one was moving or talking. I felt like crap after that. but its not my horn, its the schools, and it still works, like the only thing it did to it was the end of the slide has a flat spot on it. thats all, im just afriad that i may one day drop my good horn, my $2000 horn, i would about die if i did that
