I bought a 5G and HATED IT. they bored out the shank so much that theres hardly anything to it, and it makes the tone worse. Also that makes the horn take more air to fill up the mouthpiece. No matter how much air i put into the horn, i cant get it to sound good with the megatone. Too much air needed that it always left me breathless. Switched to a Denis Wick which I would highly recommend. the whole concept with megatone mouthpieces is that by leaving more mass in the mouthpiece, the mouthpiece itself vibrates less, therefore sending your soundwaves all into the horn, creating a "more centered tone". I think its a load of crap, but some dont.

It`s deffinately not a load of crap, it`s simple physics, although the Bach Megatone goes a little to far, and a lot of folks think it is hard to play on. I personlly do not like them at all, and everyone I know, trombone wise, that has played one, has switched away from it.
You want to see an absurd (but awesome) mouthpiece following the theory of more mass? See if you can find Tony Clements tuba mouthpiece series.
Ok I found it, click on accesories.

I`ve played one, and it is awesome.
