I am thinking about starting either trombone or trumpet, im not very musically talented at all...im an `ok` guitar player meaning i cant play a hell of a lot just some riffs and stuff etc. But i have recently lost intrest in that.

I want to know whcih is the best too play for someone who isn`t a absoloutly amazing musician, im willing too put some time into it and will probaly get lessons too, but which do u reckon would be best for me?

I dont intend to ever take it to a real high level but would like ot play one anyway, i would be looking too play mainly ska style stuff and that area.

So yea, any advice on which is best or what too look for?

i suggest you just choose one. but heres something.

trumpet will get MOST of the brass melodies
trombone will not. YAY HARMONY!!


some days i kick myself for not continuing trumpet because they get all the cool screaming stuff etc.

but i like the tromboen for its sheer flexibilty in all styles and timbre. but thats me

you just gotta pick.

try them both out, if you can`t decide...play trombone. There isn`t enought good trombone players out there in the world compared to trumpet players....i know i can be wrong.

who knows the ratio of good trumpet players to bone players. but its fact that trumpeters are going to get more press than us because well.... we just cant scream freaking high with the same projection as someone like charlie davis on the family guy theme.

Hi. I play trombone in a ska band, and the instrument you should choose depends on whitch instruments you are playing with. I`we played with 2 saxes, and that works great,, a trumpet might be to "sharp" in the sound. Now I play with one sax and one trumpet, and this is the standard horn section in many genres, and gives you as a section a variety of sounds and possibilities.
