from what i`ve seen it a smaller diameter and you can`t forget the horn itself, the rotors and such. But go for it.

The hardest thing would be learning the slide, as it is a picky monster. I`m a trombone player that also gets by on bass bone, and tuba was fairly easy to learn, so I don`t see why it would be very hard.

i`ve did that. the slides are something to get use to. and the range, is high, you`ll actually get worn out. have fun.

Should not be hard. I first played trombone, learned tuba afterward and then did bass trombone, but I already had previous firsthand experience with tenor trombone.
You just have to learn a whole series of new things playing with a slide instrument.
