I`ve been using Arbans method to get started playing bass trombone. I always used Arbans method for cornet and figured the trombone method would be just as good. I`ve started off by playing intervals and scales everyday (to the best of my ability anyway) and then trying to play one of the easier lyrical studies in the back of the book. How do you all feel about Arbans method? I know there are better methods out there but have no idea what they are. Is there anything I should be including in my practice that will help me get started on the instrument? I know I need start including long tones to develop my sound etc... Anything else I should be working on, to help with slide technique perhaps?

SlOW!!!!
its very good to do something VERY slowly and fix the problem
what you want to do is play very slow and listen to each note, you want to make sure each not starts properly and there are no imperfections. when you feel you can do this 10/10 times then speed up. this is how you want to approach everything.
