sorry about my english, but is not my main language...

i`m 29 and i have started playing the trombone 4 months ago. i really love it. the idea is play jazz. i hope.

right now i`m borrowing a yamaha 645, but i want to buy a trombone. i think a used one is the right choice.
i`ve seen some old conn`s, king`s, an old`s in ebay, with very affordable prices, but i have some doubts:

1.-is it too risky too buy on-line a second hand
instrument, without testing it?
2.-wich bone do you think i should aim?? it`s a problem if it is form the 40`s or 30`s? (too old??)...
3.-i`ve tested a king 4b, with f attachement. it was in fair condition and it sounds good to me, even in my inexperienced hands. but i think it`s too big for my jazz intentions....... any advice??

thanks

any trombone is good for jazz as long as the slide works fine. Ebay should be a last alturnative to buying a horn, find a music shop around where you live, look in pawn shops, stuff like that and try out the horn, don`t just pick one over ebay. They may say its a really good horn with a few dents here and there...but it may be falling apart, the slide may not work right, it could jsut be screwed up beyond repair and your money is then wasted....ebay should be your last alturnative. Some online places are good (woodwinds & Brasswinds, music 123 (outlit site to wwbw.com)) but i would serisouly encourage you to try out the horn first, if you just starting, i would encourge to get a student model, nothing to expensive for now, something that is verstal and you can use for as long as you live and possibly pass it down to others.
Good luck

Yes, anything would work for jazz, but if you`re gonna play jazz don`t get an F-attachment. It will make the trombone more expensive and add to the difficulty of learning. F-attachments also give air one more place to go while playing before it goes out the bell, unless you get a very nice F-attachment. Definately go without the F-attachment, NO EBAY, and if you can play the horn before you buy it. GOOD LUCK!!

you can play jazz with an F attachment, as long as you don`t hold a note out for too long, lony is its like a faster quarter note or a eigth notes, and so on...it doesn`t matter, i use one, look at almost any professional jazz band and you will see a F attachment, it doesn`t matter, but still dn`t use ebay
