Does anyone know of a place to buy the old liquid lemon pledge for slides. I seem to only be able to find the variety in the aerosol can. THANKS!!

Ok, I used to use Pledge to lube my slide, and yeah, it worked great.

But seriously, do you really want to be inhaling that stuff every time you take a breath? I realized that, and stopped using it. I still have the old bottle, but I only use it for what it was made for. House cleaning.

They make great stuff for trombone slides specifically, try one of them. SuperSlick, Slide-O-Mix, Trombotine, and dozens of others. And yes, they work just as good, actually slightly better if yo use it correctly. (i.e. with a spray bottle)

Leave the house cleaning supplies in the bathroom.

Erik,

I have used plenty of other lubricants. I have been using trombontine with the liquid pledge...and I def think it works better then anything else I've used. It lasts longer and works better. Not only that, the manufacturers of Edwards instruments (what i own), recommend it on their slides. Hence why I am searching for it. I am looking for ways to find it not for reasons why I shouldnt use it. But i respect your opinion.

I also play an Edwards.

From the Edwards site:

"Previously, our recommendation had been to spray the slide with non-aerosol Pledge. However, as the non-aerosol version is increasingly more difficult to purchase, the above products will work equally well. It is the silicone present in these products that are beneficial to slide action."

I do still have my non-aerosol Pledge, but I no longer use it, simply beccause I have found that other products, (specific to trombone) work just as well, and actually better for me.

But again, like you said, it is definately personal. I did love it when I used it, and if you don't have a problem (like I did) with inhaling it when used regularly, then awesome. It is good stuff. I still recommend using products made specifically for your instrument, but hey, to each their own.

Also remember, Edwards recommended it for cleaning the slide, not regular lubrication. For that they recommend Trombotine. Which is good stuff.

Well, I just did some research about where to get the old liquid lemon Pledge, and while I was unsuccsesful, I did find this:

"here is a list of common household products that contain known carcinogens and/or neurotoxins. Carcinogens are chemicals that cause cancer. Neurotoxins are chemicals that adversely affect the nervous system reducing emotional well being, mental alertness, coordination and other functions associated with intelligence."

Pledge Household Cleaner
Lemon Pledge
(among many others)

i have found that mixing super slick and slide o mix together can be a good combination, the only problem is the actually mixing, so for that just put the cream on the slide and then put the mix on it. but you have you use a extreemly small amount of both...a better alturnative for pledge. and this last long as well..in fact i had it on my slide over a week and it worked just as fine as it did when i put it on the slide.

Erik,

Thanks for the knowledge about the Pledge. I haven't been bothered by the smell...in fact I usually enjoyed the lemon scent. But the fumes could be bad you are right...never want to f--- with cancer. Thanks again
