I've recently bought a trombone and have been fooling around with it for a while .. My major instrument is a baritone/euphonium but I'm thinking about switching to trombone completely ..
Any tips or advice? Please?
Thanks.

1. get a bunch of trombone music and listen to it. it will make you better.
2. play it (you cant get good with out having it in your face)
3. most important HAve fun.

It's actually a fairly easy swith to make, from Baritone to Trombone. Work on your tonguing since it's a bit different with the slide working.

Also, really focus on listenning to notes. Remember, your switching from an instrument where you press a button, and the note is there, to essentialy playing a tuning slide with endless tuning possibilities. So you have to be a bit more concious about where each note lands.

I would recomend getting some sort of trombone book to help you through the basic intricacies of the instrument, simply so you don't pick up bad habits. Arban's Method is great. The Yamaha and Standard of Excellence books are great, but they are more for a true beginner into music than a convert.

A couple more books I have personally put a lot of faith into are Charles Vernon's "A Singing Approach to Trombone", and Ben van Dijk's "Ben's Basics".

for your legato tounging, i'd recommend Fink's Study in Legato, and to just get acquainted with the slide postions and such, i'd then recommend the Advanced Method for Trombone series, those two book would help a lot.

For a book i would suggest using the Essential Elements trombone series i find them at almost ever music store such as Kennely Keys and Cascade Music. I dont tounge. I really should, but i can get a low note easier because of it.
