Ska is a style of music originating in and around Jamaica in the 1950's. Jamaican's mixed their own folk and traditional music, as well as calypso, with the jazz, dixieland, and swing music they heard over the radio from the American South. Eventually, Jamaica's economy turned sour, and the music either turned slower, developing into raggae, or the musicians left for England (and other places) bringing their music with them. There it mixed with the punk scene and turned into "2nd wave" ska.

Do an internet search on ska to find good bands. There are LOTS of them out there.

3 good starter bands to see if you like ska or not, its kind of a love or hate genre
