What styles are supposed to be used? Jazz, classical, ballads?

I'd recomend 88 Basie Street, Morceau Symphonique, and Spring Can Really Hang You Up the Most- respectively.

Or if you're really good try
Concertino in Eb major, Opus 4 for Trombone and Piano- Ferdinand David.
Which I think is grade V music.

G'day
well for a classical audition try
Gordon Jacob's trombone concerto,
Ferdinand David's Konzertino in Eb,
Launey Grondahl's Concerto for trombone,
Saint-Saens Cavatine,
Guilmant's Morcue Synphonique,
Nicolai Rimsky-korsakov's Trombone concerto,
Barat's Andante and Allegro,
Lars-Erik Larsson's Concertino,
Ropartz Concert piece,
Corelli's Sonata in F,
Sigismond Stowjowski's Fantasie,
Aurthur Pryor' Blue Bells of Scotland. There is a list of trombone solos take your pick. Also what is your skill level? Please be aware that the Gordon Jacob trombone concerto is not to be under estimated. It is extremely challenging and is listed as a Licetiate level piece in the Australian Music examination Board (A.M.E.B)

I like the list of solos, but for a classical audition I would go with something that shows off your sound with legato playing and shows off your technical ability. As for jazz I would go with a standard with simple changes and be able to play it in at least 6 keys, and be prepared to solo over it. From my experiences and playing in many different scenarios, this should get you pretty far. Good luck.

agreed... in addition.. get some recordings of some of these pieces. Play one that you really like! let's face it, if the music moves you, you're bound to move people with it. nothing worse than hearing someone play a tune they don't like. personally, i would rather hear someone play a piece that may not be widely considered as challenging, but play the snot out of it, than trying to play beyond their ability.
