Hi everybody,

My main instrument is the euphonium, but I play pretty much all brass instruments in various bands/ensembles. I started playing trombone two years ago and loved it. I've decided I want to upgrade to a better sounding horn than the little student model I bought from a friend. I had been searching for used bachs when I came across the Bach Omega. I know its been discontinued, but I can't find any information on it. I can get one for a great price, but I need to know if it is better than just a student horn with an F attatchment. The price for it is unbelievably cheap, and its minor scratches shouldnt be the cause of this. Basically I want to know the quality of the instrument, the material the bell and leadpipe are made of, and the shank size. I'd appreciate any help! Thanks!

the Omega series was a line Bach made that only select retailers could sell. The Omega trombone is a .525 bore closed wrap f attachment horn. Two piece bell, the linkage on the f attachment was a little cheaper made, but nice and quiet. If i recall, the bell was a rose brass, but i'm not sure about that. It uses a small shank mpc receiver, has a finger ring below the mpc receiver. the closest horn i know of to it would be a Conn 52H. Bach marketed the Omega horn basically as a more affordable alternative to a bach 36. other than the fact that i hated the darn finger ring, it really wasn't a bad horn. if you're getting a great price on it, I say go for it. it's not a pro horn, but it is a decent, usually well made intermediate horn, and being a med bore horn, it's pretty versatile as well. and if the price is so great, if you decide to move up to a bigger horn later, you wont' have invested too much in this horn.

just to clarify, the Conn 52H is a dual bore, where the Omega is a .525 on both tubes. the reason i say they were close was as far as workmanship, stuff like that.
