Eastman Summer Trombone Institute
July 29-August 2/Sunday-Thursday, 9:30 am-5: 30 pm, some evening events(Begins 8 p.m. Sunday, July 29)

An intensive five-day workshop designed for players of high school age and above, hosted by Mark Kellogg, Associate Professor of Trombone, Euphonium, and Chamber Music at the Eastman School of Music and Principal Trombonist of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. The faculty for the Trombone Institute will also include John Marcellus, Professor of Trombone at the Eastman School and former Principal Trombonist of the National Symphony Orchestra, and James Martin, faculty member of Webster University and Southern Illinois University (Edwardsville) and former member of the Maggio Musicale and the Buddy Rich Band.

The institute will include daily master classes, trombone quartet/trio coachings and trombone ensemble reading sessions. Rotating throughout the week will be sessions on solo playing, orchestral playing, audition/recital preparation, improvisation, and doubling.

The Institute opens with a faculty concert.

The goal of this workshop is to expose players and music educators to the many facets of trombone playing in our current musical marketplace.

Faculty Recital and Program Orientation: July 29 at 8 pm in Kilbourn Hall

Final Participant Recital: August 2 at 7:30 pm in ESM 120
