Any advice on embrechure ,e.g loose lips, or air control other then the basics?

Of course, the best thing that you can do is to get yourself a competent private teacher if you don't have one yet. An instructor is always better than words and diagrams on a page.

Just to correct your spelling, it's "embouchure". Just a little pet peeve of mine.

Damnit Steve, you stole my answer. That book is amazing.

A couple more I use regularly are "The Singing Approach to Playing Trombone" by Charlie Vernon and "Ben's Basics" by Ben Van Dijk.

just play easy. thats really the best way I have found to getting that great amazing sound we all dream for. When playing waste as much air as you can. I hear alot of people saying you have to conserve air to play well, thats not true. waste air like its going out of fashion and keep a nice focus on the air stream. people get confused when they hear focused air stream. It means a focused Embouchure around the large air strweam

to paraphrase a quote from Jorgen Van Rijen....
playing trombone well only requires three things
1. Breathe correctly
2. Buzz the right pitch
3. Have the slide in the right place.
So simple, yet so true.

Thats i steve so simple.
if PLaying after half an hour and your lips feel hot, sore or weak then you are not playing easy. the air stream should feel like it does when you sigh. So relaxed not consticted or forced. now put an open focused embouchure around it and you sound should have improved 100 times better. World class players like Joe Alessi and Christian lindberg don't sound forced and thats because they aren't forcing anything.

I have an exercise for people to do regarding air.
Lie on you FLAT back on the floor or anywhere comfortable.
breath in deeply so you stomach should rise noticeably and without force LET the air flow out of your body. try that and that should be how your air feels when you play.

I have tried that, and it really helps. (although I didn't really have a problem with forced air). sighing also produce the correct air stream, but lying on your back helps more in my opinion.

I know this is random, but my sister who's in high school is playing the trombone for marching band and jazz ensemble next year. she is a flute player, but she also plays piccolo, recorder, and Irish whistle. it's wierd having another bone in the house, but I like it. she's practicing right now, and I can hear how far I've gotten. I still have a long way to go though.
