Take a long look at your mouth in a mirror,
Thin lips = Trumpet
Larger lips = Trombone
Small mouth opening = Trumpet
Larger mouth opening = Trombone
But there really isnt a standard, go listen to some jazz and classical both. Hear some of the solos and parts, just see what seems funner

hey, i have been playing the trumpet for a year and a ha;f now, and it is pretty hard for me. the trumpet can burn your lips really badly and it hurts unless ur used to it. the only hard part is getting to the really high notes. i started learning the trombone for like a week, and i already know all my notes! trombone is way easier. and the trombone dosent hurt ur lips too much

Trumpet is not better then Trombone and Trombone is not better then Trumpet. I have been playing trumpet from about four years now and am just starting trombone. Neither are easy instruments and both will take a long time to get good at. Like someone else said the instruments need each other in a band or u don`t have a band. Pick the instrument you like better and the instrument you have the most fun playing and listening to.
hope it all works out!!!

So you feel the trombone is easier than the trumpet? Here is why. You had to learn all the notes musical term basics of tone quality(support bla bla bla) and now since you already have a grasp on them you dont have to relearn those things.

Trumpet...eh...
The thing about the trumpet is that it has 3 valves, and once you know the combination, really all you need to work on is just playing..
Trombone...think of it as a violin/viola/cello for the Brass catagory. The slide itself controls tuning for every note.
Trust me...go with the Trombone...Trombone is your friend.....

Ok, a few things. Trombone is not easy to play, unless you play sheets that do not challenge you. I`ve been playing for almost 6 years, and as of yet, I`ve played soo many songs that have really taken the wind outa me (no pun intended) But it`s all about learning and improving, keep practicing, join a band, not just a school band as they usually dont allow alot of personal improvement, but try smaller bands, why not make one? get a few of your buddies together and just start playing some music, eventually you`ll want to try harder music, and from there you keep going and giving yourself more and more challenges.
Anyways, on your question of what you should learn? why not both? Get yourself a valve trombone, that way you can learn to play the instruments notes, and learn the fingurings for the trumpet. I`m hopefully going to get a MF Superbone sometime in the future as I`d like to be able to use both the Slide and the Valves.
*if you dont know what one of those are, it`s a trombone with both a slide and valves, it was invented by Maynard, hence his initials (MF)*
Good playing

I just started playing the trombone this year and i think it is much easier than the trumpet because i played the trumpet for a while .I took lessons from my big bro but i just think a slide is easier than valves. Plus i have got another big bro who is way more into the trombone than my other bro the trumpet. Im the best in the band!!!!!!!!! (other than the director)

Play the Euphonium

My advice is play the combine the two and play the euphonium (some also considered baritones, depending on the bore size). Getting out the notes are as easy as a trombone, considering it has the same size mouthpieces, and it has 3 or 4 valves like a trumpet. I have been playing the euphonium for 3 years now and it is the best instrument ever!!!
