LOOK... clearly... the OBOE is God's instrument.
Here is the story:
God created the Earth, and he wanted some beautiful music to go with it. So God made the oboe. The oboe made such a beautiful sound, but not everyone was smart enough to make the complex embouchure to produce a beautiful noise! So... god made flutes, clarinets, saxophones and bassoons! Ahh... what beautiful music they made! Yet, there were some who were to dumb to move their fingers fast enough to master the multitude of keys that came with these instruments. So God made trumpets, french horns, tubas and euphoniums, which only had 3 to 4 valves, so even those who were too dumb to play woodwinds could make beautiful music! But still... some idiots couldn't even master 3 to 4 valves. So god made the trombone, so the dumbest of all could make music with a slide. So, you see... trombone is NOT God's chosen instrument!

Well, historically it has always been the trombone. We can do the same nuances that vocalists can do, that really no other instrument can do.
It was the first instrument to be played in church because it resembled the human voice more than any other.
When asked about how he developed his incredible vocal style, Frank Sinatra (yup, old blue eyes himself) said he basically formed it by listening to Tommy Dorsey play trombone.
Remember, it's not about one pitch, or a sustained note, it's about which instrument can most closely mimic what a vocalist can do. Trombone, hands down, no debate, no argument.

I agree with Erik.
As for oboe, I don't think it sounds like human voice, maybe it sounds more like someone who really speaks from the nose
Clarinet hum...maybe. I'd say it's the woodwind that sounds like human voice the most...But I think brass instruments are more like voice, and then inside the brass family...Definately trombone. It's more open than a horn, lower and more mellow than a trumpet, higher and less big than a tuba, and it projects more than a baritone/euphonium.

It was a joke, but I was saying that because the name ''english horn'' is a mistake and the real name of the instrument should probably be ''angelic horn''. That instrument is neither a horn nor it is english. The instrument is from germany. They called it the angelic horn because, along with its cousin the oboe da caccia, it looked like horns played by angels on old german religious icons. Its name comes from medieval german, and their word meaning ''english'' and their word meaning ''angelic'' were almost indentical (I think it was something like ''engellisch'' or ''englisches''). There was a slight deformation, and a mistake was made when translating the name. This, however, has never been proved, but there is no proven origin for the name ''english horn'' anyway, and this is one of the most plausible explanations for that weird appellation.
That's why I said the english horn is the angel's isntrument. And we already said that God's voice is trombone, so there you go...sorry for you guys who play clarinet
