Hi,I am 16 and in 10th grade I have been playing trombone since 6th grade.I currently play on a yamaha ysl354 I want to know if I should step up to an intermediate level horn. I was looking at trombones with medium bore and a f attachment. I was looking at the conn 52h and the getzen 725. I am planning on being in band during college too. I will have to buy this my self when I get a job in about a month. So do you think I should keep playing on the same horn and wait or is it time to upgrade?

I am serious and Im sure I will be in band during college. I dont think I will major in music but I still want to be in band. I got serious this year but I suck at sight reading and counting. Im hopig to get private lessons.
Does anyone know about the conn 52h? I can only find like 2 reviews on it.

I don't necessarily think you need an F attachment at this stage. Have you been encountering low Eb's D's and C's in your music lately?
Now I'm not unrealistic. I know we see other players with it, and we just feel we have to have it. And it can be very useful at times. But if we were really honest with ourselves, we probably don't NEED it half as often as we think we do.
Has your teacher said something about your equipment holding you back from your potential? For a student horn, that yamaha 354 is hard to beat. Will you be keeping it? It will make a great big band horn.
Now I am glad you are lookng at medium bore horns. Rarely have I met a third year player who can truly handle a large bore instrument. The Getzen 725 is a dual bore as is the Conn 52h. This means the top slide tube is a .525 bore, and the bottom is a .547. This gives you a more conical feel, and a freer blow, while allowing more resistance for the player who is just beginning to move to a bigger horn. Plus, your small shank mpcs will still work with them. I've always found the Getzen to be a great option. It's got a sort of Conn 88H sound to it, it's an open wrap, and it just feels nice. My only beef with it is that every now and then the trigger mechanism isn't soldered on to well and will have to be fixed.. a cheap fix, but you'll be without your horn for a day. The 52H is a closed wrap horn, and a fairly nice player. It's got a index finger ring under the mpc receiver, which I have never been a fan of.
Other options to consider.. an older used Bach 36BO, mid line Yamahas.
At your level of playing, it will be best to have an experienced player try out the horns with you/ for you. If you have a private teacher, maybe they will help you shop?
