I'm section leader for my marching band, and for a bonding session with the group, i wanted to put on a trombone olympics (doing a bunch of "events" with a beater horn, ie. the lead pipe relay, slide toss, etc.) Where could I pick up a really really cheap horn, regardless of condition?

Try eBay or Craigslist. Or if you're lucky, your local pawn shop or second hand store. If you have one, a used music store might have something. Great places for beaters.
