Man, my trombone needs repair. BAD. Someone stepped on the bell! Not the really big part, but about three- four inches to the end of the bell, and it has four HUGE dents in it. Is this repairable?

Ask around at local music shops. Find the best in town, and take it there.

Go to NAPBIRT.org and look up a tech in your area. When you bring it to the tech, ask questions and they will be able to tell you what it will look like when the repair is completed.

Without relacquering the horn, there will be blemishes.

The blemishes will be entirely based on how bad the damage is and how good the repairman is. The metal and lacquer where the damage took place has been stretched. Pushing the metal back into its prior shape will result in small wrinkes because there is now more surface area than there was prior to the damage.

Relacquiring is removing the original lacquer, buffing the metal to a smooth and shiny state, degreasing the metal and putting a fresh coat of lacquer on the metal. Usually an epoxy lacquer is used these days that is baked after application. It is very durable and clear.

We pay $20.00 every month for Damage Control, so do you think they will be able to fix it without us having to pay?

I have no way of knowing what your policy covers. You will have to ask the people who you pay the money to. Make sure you read your maintenance policy first, so you have your questions prepared.

I just went, and they are repairing it and our Damage Control covers it. AND, the lady there said that if I was going to continue on into Hight School, which I DEFINITELY am, I should get a new one, so we will start our payments on either a Yamaha or a Getson (Is that what it is called? I don`t remember the name) Trigger Trombone! And, it only costs about $1,000! I`m SO EXCITED!

Great man but as just a trombone tip, go with the Yamaha.

I heartily agree just make sure its not the yamaha student trombone get and Intermediate or advanced if you or your band plays in competitions

Yamaha rocks...lol i, with the help of my band director, am looking into buying a new trombone...but the lowest price i`ve seen is $1500, that`s more than my car (my baby, a 1989 Camaro Rally Sport, its red, in really good shape, and we got if for only $1300...i need something that says "I luv my car" lol)...but my family just can`t seem to understand why an istrument would cost so much...

You can tell them that $1500 for a new horn isn`t that much, if you look around this site and see some of the equipment some of the older folks in here play, I see a lot of Edwards, Shires, costom Bachs and Conns, and high end Yamahas, which can easily go for more than $3000. Trust me, 1) it`s worth it and 2) be glad you don`t play something like oboe or bassoon.
