For all beginners you must start with the basics, so I suggest the Standard of Excellence series because it has some great diagrams about the placement of slide positions and such. Although that series is great it does not answer quite a few questions that you may have and thats why im here. For begginers who have played at least a month and know the slide positions you should start buzzing on the mouthpiece for 1-2 minutes before you ever play your horn, this increases your range and precision for the placement of notes on your horn. To buzz place your thumb and pointer finger on the top and bottom of the neck of the mouthpiece then put your mouth on the cup and start buzzing, just like you would into your regular horn. When buzzing you dont need to play any serious tune just play whatever comes in to your head. Buzzing may be frustrating at first because it makes your range sound really small, but if you have a small to medium range on your mouthpiece youre going to have a much more impressive range on your trombone, try it, it works.

Tip #2
All begginers should play long tones as another warm up that they do. Long tones are when you play a note on your horn and hold it for as long as you can. When you run out of breath breath in as much as your can (dont worry about taking too much time breathing). Your should do this for 2-3 minutes before you begin playing your horn. This increases your lung capacity and it helps your to hear certain notes on your horn and to begin developing an ear for wrong notes and trying to fix those wrong notes. This may sound terribly monotonous to do every time before you practice but it is one of the keys to good musicianship.
