check requium for tuba. a great baritone solo. Also there is a lot of tuba music that is really writen for a baritone so look in the tuba section and you might be suprised what you might find. I play bone and steel euphonium/baritone solos all the time.

...For all who take euphonium not seriously, it is just that you have given up. Euphonium is actually easy to learn but hard to get really good on. If you can play the solos by telemann or a "solo 1" like suite for baritone that goes up to a high c(4 ledger lines above the staff), you are just half good. To be "Good" you need to spend at least through college playing it.

I think there isnt a big difference, but Euph. has 4 valves instead of 3. And they generally look a bit different. But I dont know much about the actual difference, if there is one. I just play trombone.

The biggest difference between the two is that the euphonium is conical, and the baritone is mostly cylindrical. Also, usually Euphoniums are larger, and require a larger mouthpiece, sometimes large bore, sometimes small, but usually larger in general, while the baritone uses a smaller, shallower piece.
Still, why play it when you can play trombone?

Does anyone play the euphonium?

I started on trumpet over 30 years ago, but switched to baritone (TC) 4 years later. I played both instruments through high school and college. Was introduced to Euphonium and bass clef music in college. Play primarily euphonium now. I switch around a lot with the music I play. The primary group I`m in likes to use the Canadian Brass music and I use the tuba part. I do have to transpose up an octive fairly often. I will play trumpet parts, trombone, tuba, euphonium parts; it just depends on what our sound mix is like. There are advantages to being able to switch between treble and bass clef scores, just need to be careful when switching in the middle of a piece. For solo work I look for either trumpet or trombone.

woodsprite.. yes... but it may take a little bit of editing because the tuba is written a octave lower in most cases. So you may have to read it up a octave or arrange it

the euphonium is more conical while the baritone is more cylindrical. However, there is not special mouthpiece for either. You can get different ones, but they will work in either/or. In the U.S. Very few baritones are produced. Almost all the so called baritones that are produced are actually euphoniums.

there are three and four valved baritones just as there are three and four valved euphoniums. Just as there are bell front and upright versions as well.Almost ninety percent of all school "BARITONES" are actually euphoniums. Americans just have to over simplify things until they become confusing

Well yeah...because back before the Euphonium became standard in bands there only existed Baritones. Since no one really knew what a Euphonium was even after it was created, people still called them `Baritones` even though the Baritone was slowly being replaced by `Euphoniums` as the primary instrument Euphonium/Baritone players in America played. Most high school band directors today still don`t even know the difference so they call it what they`ve been told to call it since the old days....A Baritone.

I have to admit that the Euphonium rocks... I started off as a trumpet player, but I didn`t really enjoy it.Then I played the Flugel horn, then the trombone, then the baritone, and now i`m playing a Euphonium. I`m currently playing in My school band, the salvation army and I`m even busy with grade 6. There`s this competition in june, but I can`t seem to find any decent music, can someone help me?
Hope someone replies and that we can chat (hehe)
