Hi everyone, I just bought what looks like a very old OLD trombone off ebay for about AUD$100. It`s a:
"Besson & Co Class A Prototype"
"198 Euston Road London England"
"AP Sykes Melbourne"
I know that extra precaution needs to be taken when purchasing old brass instruments in terms of dents and scratches particularly on the slide of the trombone. The seller says that it hasn`t been played for a long time, and it needs a good clean and polish and should be alright. So, I figured what the hell and put a bid for it, if it turned out to be crappy and unplayable as an instrument I could still put it up on the wall as a cool ornament.
Anyway I was wondering if anyone knows much about these Besson & Co prototype trombones? I tried a google search but didn`t come up with much. I know that Boosey & Hawkes bought over Besson & Co, but that`s about it. By "prototype" I assume it was still in development by Besson & Co before they decided to stick with a particular design? Are these generally playable at all?
If anyone is interested I`ll paste a link to the ebay page where it`s got a couple of pics of the trombone.
Thanks,
- James.
