how to hold a trombone??

I started playing the trombone a couple of months ago and i was wondering how you hold it? i hold the end of the bell with my left hand my right on the slide. is that right??

I`ll continue with this question assuming that this is not a joke. If it is a joke, then it`s really kind of funny. Anyway, you definitely don`t hold the bell with your left hand. The left thumb goes over the bar closest to the connection of the slide and bell section. The left index finger goes to the mouthpiece. The right hand (obviously) moves the slide. Be sure not to use the ol` death grip.

thank you, this was not a joke!!! finally after a month someone bothers to help out a new trombone player....... i`m still holding the bone with my left hand on the bell. if i hold it the other way then my elbow joints will hurt after i practice. oh yes, and i also sweat while playing the bone. damn i sweat more playing the bone than i do the tuba. anyway, can you explain the thing about the thing with holding the mouthpeice with your index finger?
