You`re welcome, Ltbone398! I don`t know why more people don`t feel this way. The sound of the instrument itself is beautiful. To see a woman play this instrument adds to the beauty for me. There are some incredible players out there as well who happen to be women. Two I can think of right now are the Hammar sisters (Karin and Mimmi), better known as the Sliding Hammers. I have their CD and they are extremely talented musicians.

Yeah, I don`t know why people still cling to all of those gender steriotypes when there are so many good girl trombones out there. I am one of 3 french horns in my high school, but we all play trombone for jazz and marching band. Trombone is such a fun instrument!!

Human beings are very stubborn and resistant to change, Maggie. We tend to follow along the path of the least resistance. We tend to generalize causing inappropriate stereotypes to arise in our consciousness. The world of music is notorious for "going with the formula" and resisting change. The music business is exactly what it says it is. It`s a "business" looking solely to make a profit. They only sell what they figure people will buy. Anything different or what they feel to be unusual will be rejected. Thankfully, with more and more women taking up all of the brass instruments, it will slowly become "normal". Then, the music business will finally pick up on it because it`s normal and expected. That`s enough preaching! Keep up the playing and I wish you much success.

Just curious. Have any of you ladies ever played a contrabass trombone? They look as though they would require a robust breath to play.

That would be the hottest thing I have ever seen. A woman playing a contra bass. Hell, anyone playing that monster would have all my respect.

good use of the word robust.... I have played bass before, but only when i am needed, do not prefer it. Contra... thats way out of my league. Hats off to anyone who chooses to master that.

HA! I play trombone and of the female gender also lol. I am 1st chair out of 9 guys and the only girl in our whole TOWN that plays trombone. Im in 8th grade and when ppl ask me what intsrument I play, they almost crap their pants when i say i play tbone. Its funny to whatch their faces. hehe. I love the trombone and the sound of it is just hypnotizing to me. I am in Jazz Band and our symphonic band. I also have an unusual attraction to male trombone players...

There really isn`t that many girls, it seems, who play the trombone. Although back in the day, I wanna say `97, My girlfriend was a trombone player. She was 1st chair of the 9th grade band and I was 1st chair of the 8th. I think girls strokin` the bone is kewl if they can do it in all 7 positions. lol.
