Out of the excerpts that trombone players are supposed to play for orchestral auditions, what is your favorite? What is your most challenging?
My personal favorite is La Gazza Ladra by Rossini. I`m not sure which is the most challenging for me.

I don`t know if its in the standard repertoire, but as a listener the most memorable trombone bit from my orchestra was in the "Tuba Mirum" from Mozart`s requiem.

there are TONS of "standard" repertoire of excerpts out there. i could not tell you off the top of my head which ones there are, but there a lot of em. search online for orchestral auditions and look up what excerpts they want people to play. also if you play to pursue this quite viciously i suggest picking up a CD made by Ralph Sauer(principal of the L.A. Phil) of walkthroughs of the major excerpts.
but OO one excerpt that is freaking KILLER is Bolero..... oh my.... 7 minutes of not playing then picking up your horn and blowing a high Bb. sucks butt.

I know... I`m just asking what people`s favorites and most challenging excerpts are. I`m not asking for the entire rep.
You`re right about Bolero!
