I kinda want a second opinion on this one... Are Kelly mouthpieces good mouthpieces? I`ve never had one, and I`m probably getting one, so it would be of great help if someone would tell me whether they`re good or a piece of crap.

Kelly mouthpieces are those colored ones, if that makes it any clearer...

I played a plastic trumpet mouthpiece once. It didn`t sound very good, and made the horn sound a great deal duller and less resonant. I think this can be demonstrated by tapping the reim of a brass mouthpiece. It gives a definite ringing sound. When the rim of a plastic mouthpiece is tapped, it just ticks. Not much resonance happening there. I would reccomend a normal brass mouthpiece, and not a plastic one.

There the all plastic ones? They arent so good. But...they make a clear one that is an excelent teaching tool. Play with one while an old pro watches closely and you will be suprized what they can teach you. If you are looking for plastic Bach makes(havent seen them in a while though) a good mouthpiece with plastic cup that ataches to a metal shank. Best sound from plastic.

you know... i dig these kelly pieces. i dont know why but i dig the way they play. you may hate em though. so i suggest you just get to a store that carries them and mess aroudn on it and see if you like it. thats the only way to determine the worth of something like that

I think they are..... well... hilarious. They crack me up. They sound funny, and they feel funny if you`re not used to them. Really the only reason they exist is so that if you are in a marching band in below freezing tempurature, your lips don`t stick to your piece like in the movie "Christmas Story".

But hey, at least they are cheap. It`s sometimes fun to have a toy mouthpiece like that. That`s the reason I bought my Jet-Tone, as a toy.
