I`m 14 and have been playing trombone for 6 years. I`ve been looking for a new trombone that I will be able to play through high school(orchestra+jazz band/hobby/brass choirs/etc.) I went browsing and the one thing that really interested me was the larger bore trombones, moreso the .547`s. Mainly what I`m unsure of is whether or not an F trigger is really necesary. Because I`ve seen some really nice sounding, large bore silver trombones, but I have failed to find a silver trombone with an F trigger, that isn`t 40 years old with a huge amount of dings and scratches and stuff. What does anybody recommend. I`m looking for something new, that I`ll be able to keep for, pretty much for good. Something with a good sound for all around types, and good looking instrument. Company and model number, if you know one, would be awesome. THANKS!

Ok there a re a couple that you can get prety easily. I like the con 88h cl s it has a silver bell but the rest of the horn is brass. It gives a brighter sound than all brass plays great(just played one like 3 days ago)
con also makes an all silver horn the 88h gsx open wrap. Love it it is a little more than the cls but I think it is worth it at a pro level.
The king 4b silver sonic w/fattachment. great horn but it is really tough to find them.
I have a question for you, at 14 is it? why are you looking for a pro horn? Where do you play? Are you taking private lessons? I think Id spend a little csah on lessons so that you can really play the new horn.
Good luck, oh btw if you want silver go to a local music shop (one of the bigger ones) and tell them they can find them a lot quicker than I can. Also go to google and do a search for king musical instruments. It will take you to a selmar website that lists hundreds of trombones.
Good luck

I believe all of the major trombone companies produce horns in silver. They are just rather rare, as the lacquer finish is more popular on trombones, for reasons that are unclear to me. If you want to play jazz (I am assuming lead parts) then you probably will not want to get a full size .547 inch bore. These horns are too big for most people to play continuous high notes on without getting worn out. I would reccomend a medium large bore (.525") horn. I think that a trigger is a very useful thing to have, and I would reccomend that you get one. It often makes quick note changes easier and crisper, and it gives you a lower range. I would reccomend taking a look at the Yamaha YSL-684GS. That would be a silver plated medium large bore horn with a semi-open F attachment, of the highest quality in the business.

i suggest going to a music store grabbing a few trombones and trying them all out. You will never know whats good for you or what you sound good on until you try it out.... i would try a king or a conn. good horns for your age and it wont suck in marching band
