I`m considering buying a new trombone. Right now, I`m leaning towards the bach 42 series. I`m also considering getting a getzen, conn, or a holton. Any suggestions?

TRY EVERYONE HORN ON THE MARKET!!!! dont overlook any horn. You never know what is a good horn FOR YOU until you try it.
But ya the 42 is a great horn.

Don`t lean towards anything until you have played everything. I like Conns and Yamahas myself, and I think the Besson is an outstanding horn if you want a dark, powerful sound that can still sound good. Conns and Yamahas both have a nice strong brilliant tone that is good for soloing, but might not be strong enough in some of the loudest pieces of music around. I personally feel the Bachs have more projection than Conns (though about the same as Yamahas) but every Bach trombone I have ever played has had terrible response, intonation, and tone quality. But if you find one you like, go for it.

Like everyone I have a favorite horn. I think everyone should play king or conn (but only con 8h and 88h) I have a favorite valve thayer but hagman is good too. Oh if you have the cash go with an edwards or if you have a lot of time and cash shires is the way to go. I also hear that rath is prety good.(forgot the word damn after prety in the last sentence) But wait there is that courtois horn that is suposed to be prety good. Its not a rath or shires but I like them. If you get a bach 42 i like the 42bo cause "I" like open wrap.

I would play a Bach 42 over any other symphony horn outside of the extreme high end ones any day, as a matter of fact I did for about 8 years. They are great horns, they sound great, you have plenty of options, and they offer lots of room to grow. I have played in sections where people had Conns, some with the Lindberg valve and some without, Shires, Getzens, Holtons, and many more. I always came back to the Bach after playing them and listenning to them. Awesome horns. If you can, don`t get a production line Bach 42, try to get a costom one. Now I play an Edwards, which for me, after years and years of expirementing on everything I could get my hands on, it is by far the best.
