Hi to all,
I`ve been looking up a lot on those new xeno trombones by yamaha. If any one owns one, or knows a lot about them in terms of their tone, consistency, etc., could u please tell me more about them? And how do they compare to the conn 88H series or the bach 42 series overall? thanks.

I recently played a Xeno with the F attachment at my local music store. My oppinion on the horn is that it didn`t have quite the feel of a good Conn 88H, but it is a solid horn, and able to play louder better than the Conn. I would say the Xeno could beat any Bach you put it up against. I think the real reason I didn`t like it as much as the Conn was that Yamaha uses very strong lacquer, which protects the instrument, but limits the ability to resonate. I think the Yamaha probably is the best production line trombone, in terms of quality, consistenct, and playability. The Xeno should work well for a broad spectrum of players. Yamaha`s have the best consistency in the business, so getting one is a safe investment. I encourage you to go check one out, and let us know what you think of it.

Hi Bobert,
In your opinion, what is the best trombone you have ever played? I have never got a chance to play a yamaha before because I mostly played on conns and bach in the past. I feel that conns are very responsive and easy to play, but tend to "splatter" easier than bachs. On the other hand, bachs are can be very powerful but are not as easy to play as conns, in my experiences. I really like certain characteristics of both brands, and I`ve heard that yamahas are like a mixture of both brands. Is this true? But unfortunatly, no music store around where I live have any xenos for me to try out =(

My favorite horns from the big companies are probably the Conn 88H. I have never played a Bach trombone I liked. My favorite horn would be the Yamaha if it was a silver one, or the lacquer was stripped, but the lacquered ones sound dead. My favorite horn is my custom Besson.

I guess that didn`t make much sense. My favorite stock horn is the 88H. I would like the Yamaha`s more than the Conns, if they weren`t lacquered. My favorite horn of any kind, ever, is my Besson.
