You might be using to much of it. Also, these greases require a spray botle as well. As soon as it get`s just a bit sluggish, spray it down really good and your set.

I only use a thin strip/line about 4 inch. long on each side of my slide and wet it down with water like you said.I spent $90 on getting my inner slide soddered back on,on one side, and its been kinda screwed up since.i`m thinking that maybe they didn`t aline it just right. i only spent $100 bucks on my trombone anyways(its not a piece of crap or anything, the kid i bought it from just didnt want it and wanted to get a little money).like i said, ive tried super slick and slide o mix(along with every other type you can posibly imagine).maybe this trombontine stuff will work.about how much dores it cost?

If the other stuff didn`t work, I highly doubt that trombotine will. It probably is the slide work, especially if the horn was a cheaper horn to start with. Slides are one of those funny things that once they are dented or screwed up, they are pretty much never like new again, no matter how much work you do.

earlier i chimed in on this topic about how i use both products for different horns.
but recently i switched to using JUST trombotine. why? i figured the right amount on my slide to make it work nicely. i find with trombotine that less is ALWAYS better. i use BARELY any trombotine on all my slides and it sits on the slide JUST right.
i do like the way slide-o-mix sits on my slide but i find myself reapplying because it all just evaporates. not to mention if i let any slide-o=mix sit on my slide it starts turn colors and forced my to clean my slide almost every 3 days(Im VERY particular about the shape my slides are in).
bottom line, i dig trombotine A LOT and probably will use it for just about forever, or at least until they make self lubricating slides =)

<<well thanks i guess that i probably am going to try it.i`ve used slide o mix before and it worked pretty good, but for some reason everytime i put any kind of slide stuff on it,it works for 15-20 mins. and then my slide gets reallllly stiff. i`ve tried super slick and it was great but only for 15-20 mins! i have no idea what`s the matter with it,except maybe the slides are not in-line or something.any suggestions on what to do?>>
Someone said this...but to not put too much and use water. I have used different kinds of stuff ranging from the Slide O mix to slide oil to Yamaha`s version of the SOM. I don`t recall using Trombontine but oh well.
As for the slides not being inline, it is possible. I know that mine were really bad at one point. I had it sent in to be oworked on and now its fine. Just need to keep wiping the inner slides.

I am back..mwhaha...
Hmm...for slide slick-ness...(xD)
Slide-O-Mix is great for having the smoothest response. However, it is said, and proven that if you don`t clean and re-lube every 2-5 days, the Slide-O-Mix forms small crystalizations. The crystals will make your slide sound like it has dents when it does not.
However, that should not deter you from using Slide-O-Mix, because you should ALWAYS clean your slide at least every 5 days. Not the whole inner slide-outer slide blah blah blah, just you know, wipe off the inner slide with a smooth fabric, cheese-cloth the outer slide, and re-apply. I think that if you do this every 2-4 days, with a deep engrossed cleaning every 2 weeks, Slide-O-Mix will be perfect.
For Trombontine, I never personally used it. Well, I did at one point, but after testing the lubricant for several months, I noticed that there was slight oil buildups in the inner slide, close to where the 7th position of the slide is (the fatter part...-_-). However, since my slide was on Slide-O-Mix for most of its life, I don`t think the transfer went well...
My advise to all players: If one lubricant works like how you want it, and satisfied, don`t change! If you want an opinion on lubricants, it should always be directed to a professional (Brass Department workers, Professionals, Band Directors, etc.)
Hope this helps...-_-
I personally use the Slide-O-Mix...works wonders.

the only thing the slide lubricant is supposed to do really, is make a coating on the slides so that the water droplets can act like ball bearings. Sometimes, slides are made different and different lubricants work better. I have been using slidomix, and up until a week ago when my slide got dented in, it was working awesome. Not so great anymore, because the inner slide is dented in a tiny bit on the bottome sleeve, so I gotta have it replaced. Stupid marching band. Anyways, trombotine is just a really good slide cream. i dont much care for creams really, but they do last longer than other things. Stay away from oils if you concerts or practices last for more than an hour. The oil works unbeleivably well at the very beginning, but then it wears off, and your stuck witha dry slide. Either creams or mixes are the way to go. Im gonna try this superslick stuff, if when my slide is fixed it doesnt work too good. Then im gonna also go back to try trombotine again and just see what i like best.
P/S/ when swithching lubricants, ALWAYS wash your slides very well, because slides are very particular, and mixing lubricants often doesn`t work too well. Keep dirt off also. That is the main killer of slide performance.

i use the stuff that came with my instrument when i bought it. i got a massive free supply. however i know a guy who owns the same instrument, except its a year older, and he swears by slide o mix. he`s been playing like 10 years so im not arguing, being a relative noob to tromboning. you and your slide, find out whats best for your slide. i dont like oil but hey, whatever floats your boat

I`m really into trombonotine b/c it has a great reaction time (no sticking or grindage.) for cleaning my slide, i wipe it down then fill the outer slide w/ water and put the inner slide back in. put your fingers over the lead pipes and pump it just hard enough to build up pressure. it works really well for getting unwanted sedement from pep band off.
