Try buying standard of excellence for trombone, the red version of it is the beginner version.

CallmeKacie, in the A Flat scale, D is supposed to be flat, not natural...
Anyways, I`ve been playing trombone for nearly four years, and on a regular, triggerless trombone, I could reach a High D (The note on the Fifth Ledger line above the staff), and a pedal tone G (The note on the space below the Third Ledgers line below the staff). I now play on a Yamaha Tenor Trombone with F Attachment, and I can play the same range, but with a MUCH MUCH better tone.
As for scales, those are seriously Fifth Grade stuff, and you should be able to memorize all 12 Major Key Signature Scales. In Colorado (Where I live), we have to play B Flat, E Flat, C, F, G, D, D Flat, and A Flat Memorized for a State Assessment. We also have to have the F Chromatic Two Octave memorized. You should have all the scales memorized.
You should get your scales done.

To the person who gave exact positions: your intentiosn were good, but your information is inaccurate. Every trombone is unique. As such, there is no exact definition for 1st position, 2nd position, etc. Your measurements are merely approximations. To really figure out where each position is for each note(every partial is different), you need to get a tuner or a piano. Sit down and tune each note in every partial you can play. When you practice, maintain the exactness of pitch you attained while tuning each note individually. This is a difficult process, one that makes the trombone different from all other wind instruments. It will take a lot of practice, but it is possible. As previously mentioned, method books are very useful, but a teacher will really get you going. A private teacher will be able to help you with every aspect of your playing, from tuning to slide technique.
