I just used this pink stuff this weekend. It was an entierly synthetic nontoxic oil. It works really nice. I think it was like rat somthin. Anyway i used about as much of that as i normally use slidomix(small bottle only) and a little watter and it was even faster than the slidomix. Virtually no friction. Ill try to find the actual name of it. It was really fast.

Any idea how to get rid of all the grease that a slide collects during it`s life?

Uh, maybe try wiping it off with a wet cloth or sponge?

You should really wipe off the slide every time you reaply grease, so it doesn`t get backed up like that. If you wipe it off good every time with a clean, dry cloth, like an extra polishing cloth, it will be slick as snot for good. If you don`t, the old grease will back up and the slide will get sluggish.

Ok Thanks.

I just bought an very old trombone and there is quite some old grease in it what makes the slide sluggish

If it`s real old, it might need some more work than just being wiped off. Try a wet cloth, and if that doesn`t work, try something like a not-so-rough brillo pad. Just make sure it`s not one with soap or cleaner built in.

So i try to cleen my horn a couple times a year. I take it in to the shower with me and use some gentile liquid dish soap on a piece of chease cloth usually a drop or 5 will do the entire horn. i cleen the inside of all pipes (slide bell tuning slide ecct with a snake (cheese cloth attached) and the outside with a soft terrycloth rag. I recomend that everyone should shower with there bone every now and then. Always dry the horn well and ina warm dry area you dont want any spots to devlop on it. (usually varnish stops this but some of us have removed the varnish cause well we can) Then after its dry lube it really well. (not sure if this is the time to try peanut butter).

Slide-O-Mix is the best, but I found that using cream is pretty good too. Using cream is better than using slide oil becuase slide oil is used by beginners not by more advanced players. Trombontine is also pretty good.

I said it before, I will say it again, I have used Slide-O-Mix, Trombotine, Bach grease, Conn grease, and much much more. By far, the best I have ever used, has to be Superslick. Easy, great speed, lasts a long time, just feels great all around.

Slide o mix has a down side. If you have a really fast slide it may actually feel like it is draging the slide. (that is acording to slid-o-mix). So they made a slideomix light which is much faster than normal slideomix but it doesnt last to long.

Im tellin ya all that if you havent tried "fat cat" you aught to it is really fast and lasts much longer than most natural (lanolin based) oils and greases. I am in no way asociated with them I just really like the stuff.

(btw im curently using slideomix but fatcat in my opinion is better it is just a little harder to get)

I tried ponds cold creme today. and i found that when applied right there is no compairable diference to slide o mix, with the exception that when applied correctly, there is no drag on the slide. (if you are using slideomixlight it is the same.)
