I have transported my Horns a few times now.
The first time was when i got my edwards. Flying to chicago to LA I had it in a soft pro-tec case and they didnt give me any garbage about taking it on the plane.
And last summer took my Edwards Bass with me on tour to hawaii and japan. BIG HASTLE. none of the airlines would let me take it on the plane so i had to pack it tight in the hard case. I didnt have any problems fortunately.
Just make sure you pack everything nice and stiff so it doesnt move. Also you can contact your local musicians union and acquire a letter that says you CAN take your horn with you on the plane. So if the airlines hastle you, just whip out the letter and they SHOULD let you take it on the plane.
good luck. thats all the info i got

Did your bone actually fit in the overhead compartment?
Also, does that union thing apply to all instruments. What about a mother-sized cello?
