to me, ther really isnt a difference is sound. but i prefer mine. a silverplated yamaha trombone with an f-attachment. but it all depends on what kind of sound you want brass- mellow silver- more accented (kind of like a trumpet) ya know?

I am lucky enuf to have both a silver plated King and a lacquered King - both the same model. The silver is mellower & probably better for orchestral or concert band work. The lacquered one has a brighter, brassier sound and I use it almost exclusively as I play in a Brass Band. Hope this helps.

are you sure?? it is usually accepted that it is the other way around. then again, you just might have two special horns that dont follow the rules

Well... I haven`t really heard anything about different sounds for different colors, but I suppose it could work. I have a silver trombone but the one I play is brass. They sound about the same, except the silver is a tenor, but you get the idea. My suggestion is go with whatever you would like and just make sure it doesn`t look like crap.

silver instruments supp to sound brighter than lacquered ones which sounds a little more warm and rounded...symphonic band tromobonists tend to use lacquers more often due to the pieces they play..which seldom require them to sound too bright and clashing with the trumpets...~

I have a lacquer Bach F-attachment and I love it! but if you have the chance, silver plated trombones are really cool for some types of music. It really just depends what kind of sound you are looking for. I suggest talking to your directors and asking them for their opinion. (i have always wanted an "inside out trombone, silver plated bone with gold mouthpiece... sweet!!! yeah...)
happy searching!

since you play mostly symphonic and orchestral you should look into getting a laquer trombone with a rose brass bell. The rose brass bell gives you a warmer sound and is good for orchestral playing. If you wanted to play more jazz than orchestral you would want to buy a silver plated trombone. It gives you a brighter sound. Good luck in your decision.

If you have any sense what so ever you will never buy a silver trombone. Trombones are supposed to have a dark warm sound, and the silver only makes it loud and brassy like a trumpet...and no one wants that. Thats my advice

Personaly I would go for the Lacquered trombone with an F
trigger. They have a much better sound than the silver ones
I`ve heard. You want a more mellow smooth sound but with a
Silver you don`t get that. So if u have any questions e-mail

Well I too have both a laquer & silver trombone. Actually i have 3 laquered & 2 silver. I usually do use my silver one for the symphonic playing with my school band. Here in Russellville AR we`re proud of our band & we have one of the largest in the state, so I personally need something that can get loud. True, the colors do make it what people say. Laquered does mellow more & silver is a bit more bright. My silver bone i use with my school band has an F, my other silver one doesn`t & i use it for jazz a lot..., it is a pee-shooter, so the medium bore & the silver color helps me wail a bit, haha. With large brass ensembles I choose my Conn 88, it`s wonderful. I use it a lot for orchestral things too. Though the laquer vs. silver thing does effect the sound it`s all about you`re playing too. I can make my silver ones sound more mellow than any one of my laquered ones. It`s all in the lips of which will be developed. I say start out with a laquered bone, then buy a silver one & play it a lot & just get used to it.

I have a lacquer Yamaha horn with f attachment and I think it is the best thing I ever bought I would say get the Lacquer its more standard. and honestly to me I have playes on many and own one silver and 2 lacquer and can`t hear much difference its the way yo play it more than what the instrument is.
