Can anyone tell me the pros and cons between these two horns, and ultimately, regardless of players` ability, which is the best horn all around.

Thanks!
Michael

Because each player is diferent there is no best horn. I like shires but somone else likes rath better. Here is the deal go play them then decide for your self which is better.

Play both for 30 minits at least.

Play both horns. If you are truly looking at a horn of this calibre, then you should be putting a few hours on each before you buy one. They are both great horns.

ya what those two guys said..

BUT you know i have my opinions and im entitled to have to oppurtunity to force it upon everyone.

I LOVE and i mean LOVE the Shires small bore horn. Best small bore horn i have EVER played

Then... i love the Rath large bore tenors more than the shires. Just a good solid horn

Shires bass trombone no doubt about it.

but when it comes down to it, I play edwards large tenor and bass and i absolutely love those horns more than rath and shires.

I agree with Mas. I don`t have as much experience with these 2 brands he Mas, but the experience I do have lead me to buy an Edwards as my top choice. I just liked them more, and when you get down to it, that`s all that matters. Personal choice. So, in my opinion, go with Edwards, or at least make sure you try it.

Played the Bill watrous horn today. It is a bach 17 i think with a short tuning slide. It played great. The overtones were so close (position on the slide) i moved my hi g in almost half as far as i do on my 3b . Great horn.

Hmmm.... never heard of a Bach 17. Do you mean a Bach 16? That`s the jazz horn I play, and yeah, awesome horn. For lead jazz work, that is my first choice, with the 3B silversonic second.
