I have a Benge .547 Intermediate model, and I am moving up to a prefessional, but since im going to college, cant afford a 3300 trombone at this time, I found two Bach Omega MG293 trombones ranging from 400 to just under 900. They have a .525 bored, 8" bell, F rotor mechanism, and a traditional wrap, which is basically most of the criteria that i am looking for. Would like to have a silver finish, but realize probably not going to happen. Does anyone have any usefull information for me on this particular Bach model? Thanks for the help.

My impression of the horn is that it is a "intermediate" model trombone. meaning.... i have no freaking clue. I never understood the point of a intermediate trombone. if i were you i would spend the money on a overhaul on your current horn. i think the .547 bore will treat you much better than the .525 bore. Not to mention the overhaul might make playing your horn much better. Where you are im assuming it seems you need a horn that will suit you as you mature. So its hard to do with a tight budget.

so im going to stand by my get a overhaul because its going to be tough to get a good horn under 1k. Good luck and i hope im of any help

Thanks for the tip, but I`m going to be playing jazz in college this coming year... and i need a brighter sound then my .547, exspecially when im playing 1st or 2nd parts, so i need to upgrade. Also benges are notorious for having a buzzing sound, so im looking for just a better trombone, that will take me through college, and also my professional career which began three years ago. Do you have any ideas on what other types of professional trombones would help me with what im trying to achieve?

If you will be playing 2nd or 3rd part, the Bach Omega will work fine. Other horns that I like are the King 3B w/F-attachment (.508) and the Conn 52H (.525/.547 dual bore).

However, if you will be playing lead, you might want to look into a horn with an even smaller bore for the brighter sound such as the King 2B (.481/.491 dual bore) or the King 2B Plus (.500). The King 3B is also great for lead (.508) with or without the F-attachment.

I do have a Conn 52H that I bought about a year ago, but I rarely used it because I got stuck on lead and I have been there ever since. It has a rose brass bell and is in awesome condition. If you want more info, just let me know.

If you want the ultimate lead horn, I have an old satin silver Conn 2H with one of the smallest bores ever on a trombone - .458. Most trumpets are .459, so if you want to scream, this could be the way to go. It`s too small for me to use, so I am considering selling it.
